Intermittent fasting is taking the world of health and weight loss by storm, and celebrities followed by millions are getting on the IF bandwagon.
Celebrities who practice intermittent fasting include Jack Dorsey, Elon Musk, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Kourtney Kardashian, Hugh Jackman, and many more. Some do it to burn fat and stay fit, some do it to get a clearer mind and detox their bodies.
But what exactly is this diet that unites people from many different lifestyles, and how can you practice it yourself?
Intermittent fasting is a nutrition system in which you simply limit the hours you eat. The most popular versions of intermittent fasting are the 14/10, 16/8 and 20/4 plans.
For instance, if you’re following a 14/10 intermittent fasting plan, you eat whatever you want during the 10-hour eating window and fast for the remaining 14 hours. During your fasting hours, you aren’t allowed to eat anything or consume any caloric beverages. You can drink water, black coffee, black tea, or herbal tea while fasting.
Now, let’s examine which fasting plan these celebrities follow – and why.
Celebrities who do intermittent fasting
Wellness tricks aren’t restricted to Hollywood stars; they are sometimes adopted by Silicon Valley celebrities, such as Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter and the founder of Square (Block).
The 45-year-old businessman has revealed in multiple sources that he has been fasting for quite a while now, and is definitely seeing great benefits from it.
During one interview, he reported that he’s been skipping breakfast and lunch, having just one meal a day, between 6.30 and 9 pm. He also shared his love for intermittent fasting on his official Twitter account.
Been playing with fasting for some time. I do a 22 hour fast daily (dinner only), and recently did a 3 day water fast. Biggest thing I notice is how much time slows down. The day feels so much longer when not broken up by breakfast/lunch/dinner. Any one else have this experience?— jack (@jack) January 26, 2019
This type of eating is called the OMAD plan (one meal a day) in the intermittent fasting world. The successful CEO also added that his meal plan mainly consists of proteins and vegetables.
Dorsey explains that he has a clearer mind through intermittent fasting, adding that his days feel longer and he can focus better on his work without dividing the day up with meals.

Even the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, has weight issues and was spotted on cameras out of shape in the Greek islands. Back in 2020, The Tesla CEO admitted on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that he loves tasty food. After the out-of-shape photo incident, he tweeted that he started to practice intermittent fasting, which is quite a sustainable method for someone who enjoys eating a lot. He also tweeted that he has lost more than 20 pounds (9 kg).
The Friends star Jennifer Aniston is one of the many followers of intermittent fasting in the entertainment world. The 53-year-old beauty reports that she feels and looks better after changing her diet to this system.
She’s been fasting regularly for a couple of years now and has stated in an interview that she skips breakfast and doesn’t eat anything until noon. She drinks only celery juice and coffee until her eating period starts.
Kourtney Kardashian, the oldest sister of the Kardashian clan, stated in 2018 that she’s a fan of intermittent fasting. As the fans of the reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” know, she is the sibling most interested in wellness and healthy eating.
On her own health and lifestyle website Poosh, she wrote that she doesn’t eat after 7 pm, and then only eats around 11 am the next day, after her morning workout. This means she doesn’t eat for 14 to 16 hours in total after dinner.
One day a week, she fasts for a complete 24 hours and drinks only water, green tea, and bone broth, all of which are OK to consume when fasting.
One of the best aspects of intermittent fasting is that you can incorporate any diet into this nutrition system, such as vegan, vegetarian, Mediterranean, Paleo, or ketogenic diets, etc. Kourtney Kardashian is known for following a keto diet, with high fat and low carb intake, while also doing intermittent fasting.
Halle Berry is another of the many Hollywood actresses who attribute her fitness to intermittent fasting. The Oscar-winning star revealed on her Instagram that she’s been doing intermittent fasting for years.
She eats only two meals a day. Her first meal of the day is around 2 pm, combining breakfast and lunch right after completing her daily workout. The only things that she drinks in the morning are green smoothies or bulletproof coffee.
Halle Berry is also known to follow a keto diet to manage her type 2 diabetes, by eating only a small amount of carbs and a lot of healthy fats like avocado, in addition to dark green leaves such as kale and spinach; veggies like celery, cucumber, cauliflower, and broccoli; proteins like grass-fed beef, chicken, and eggs. She also adds keto-friendly fruits to her plate such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
Who doesn’t remember Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine abs? Hugh Jackman, who was 44 years old back when the movie “Wolverine” was shot, has been a trendsetter in the world of fitness since then.
Although he owes his muscular body to a rigorous training plan, the importance of his nutrition can’t be underestimated. The diet he followed was even called the “The Wolverine diet”, but in fact, it’s simply the 16/8 intermittent fasting plan.
Each day, he ate during an 8-hour period and fasted for the remaining 16 hours to boost fat burn. He also followed a meal plan prepared by a coach and took supplements that promote muscle gain. But if you choose an intermittent fasting plan that’s suitable for you, you too can get closer to having a body like Wolverine!
