Concentrating on your job and being productive is tough during a pandemic. Working from home doesn’t help with that either, but there are some basic tips that you can do to overcome these difficulties.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, lots of companies have shifted to remote working. This means that many people from all around the world have been working from their homes for quite a while now.
Many employees find it harder to concentrate on their work while at home. When there’s not a physical boundary between the office and home, people are struggling to preserve the work-life balance. As these boundaries get blurry, concentration and productivity levels at work decrease dramatically.
Luckily, there are some simple but effective tricks that you can do to improve your concentration levels and stay productive while working from home.
1) Establish clear working hours
First things first, you have to be strict about your work hours. You have to get out of bed at an early hour as if you’re going to the office. At the end of your workday, try to shut down your computer as if you’re leaving the office and going back home. Do not carry on working until the late hours of the evening.
Get ready as if you’re going to the office: Wash your face, brush your teeth, get dressed, and have breakfast as if you are going to the office. Never start your workday with your pajamas on.
2) Create a workspace for yourself
Make this space your area. Make it appealing and convenient for yourself.
3) Use earbuds
Even if you’re living alone, there may be lots of noise going around: Your neighbor’s barking dog, drill sounds coming from another neighbor’s house redecorating their kitchen, or traffic noise from outside. To minimize the negative effects, use noise-canceling headphones or earbuds. Trust us, they really are life-savers.
4) Eat your lunch in another room
Take a lunch break. Do not eat your lunch in front of the computer or at your desk. Go to the kitchen or another available room of your house to eat, as if you’re going out for lunch just like you did back in your office days.
5) Do not get distracted by the internet
Close non-work-related tabs on your web browser. Most importantly, stay away from social media. We all know that scrolling through Instagram’s Explore page can be a huge waste of time. Use tools to
set time restrictions on certain websites or apps.
6) Do household chores out of work hours
It sounds practical to vacuum the house or wash your clothes between two online meetings, but it severely interrupts your concentration and workflow. Instead, spare 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening to do these chores.
7) Take a workout break
Once your work hours are over, or before having lunch at the lunch break, schedule a workout session to move your body and sweat your stress out.
